Once a year, SHRM Olympia gives back to our HR Community by offering a free breakfast meeting!  All we ask in return is for you to bring a canned food donation for the Thurston County Food Bank, so we can give back to our local community during the upcoming holiday season.

SHRM Olympia is proud to present Mr. Cary Randow.  Cary is the owner and principal consultant with the Human Resources Planning Group located in Olympia, WA. Cary brings over 30 years of front line experience in total compensation planning and related state and Federal laws pertaining to pay. State of Washington wage and hour compliance was one of Cary’s primary responsibilities as the state’s Compensation Manager. He is currently working with clients to support their understanding of the salary basis changes proposed by the Wage and Hour Division of the Dept. of Labor in helping them to manage this risk.

On May 18th of this year the Department of Labor announced the most significant changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) since it became law in 1932. Major changes were made to the overtime eligibility rules of the act which affected both its salary basis and duties test provisions.  Employers, in both the public and private sectors, have been affected and have been developing and implementing best options in advance of the December 1 effective date.  This presentation will focus on what employers have done or are considering in response to the new overtime regulations.
