    Benedict (Ben) Lastimado Ed.D is currently the Human Resources Operation Manager at the Washington State Patrol.  He has been an HR practitioner of 26 plus years - 17 years in public higher education at the HR Executive level and 9 years as a Human Resource Officer in the United States Army (retired).  He also specializes in HR and Organizational Development, in which he was a consultant for private and public sector organizations for over 10 years.  He is currnetly an Adjunct Professor for the Masters in HR and Masters in Organizational Leadership degree programs for Chapman/Brandman University Washington and California branches.  He presents at national, regional, and local annual conferences for Society for HR Managers Association (SHRM), Professionals In HR Association (PIHRA); College & University Professionals Association HR  (CUPA-HR), various Southern and Northern California, and State of Washington HR Managers Associations.  He is an accomplished author, with another book pending publication in the fall of 2014 titled:  The Four Pillars of HR Leadership – Increasing Your HR Influence.


    Many HR strategies fail or provide mediocre outcomes as the result of HR professionals not utilizing the “systems thinking approach” when designing strategies. This presentation is to introduce the systems thinking approach and how HR professionals can utilize such tool to ensure the HR strategy is successful. This presentation includes short exercises for participants.

    Objectives
    By the end of this presentation, you will:

    • Understand how “systems & subsystems” in each HR system impacts effectiveness and efficiency

    • Understand the basic principle of systems thinking of “everything is a cause and everything is an effect.”

    • Demonstrate (using several HR systems) how the systems thinking approach will increase the success of a HR strategy

    • Have participants engage in short exercises to increase understanding
