One of the main challenges for HR and management is maintaining and producing an evolving workforce. An integral part of the second challenge is being able to managing the injured or ill worker out on leave or restricted duty.  With the changing dynamics of both the public and private sectors, and so much emphasis placed on production, all it takes is one mismanaged absence to degrade the work and morale of an entire unit in a short span of time. This program is a firsthand account of what it took for HR to change the culture of an organization by giving empowerment to its management for the one of the most difficult of duties, the management of employees on protected leaves.

Lonnie L. Spikes Jr. is a Senior HR Consultant for the WA State Department of Licensing. Lonnie is the subject matter expert in Protected Leaves and Workers Compensation (WC) Claims management for his agency for almost seven years.  He also serves as the back-up ADA Specialist, giving him insight on the collaboration between ADA and FMLA, WC, and other protected leaves. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Human Resource Management and is SPHR certified. He will be the speaker at our February meeting.

    The program will review:
    · Federal and Washington State local leave laws and rules
    · Employee role and responsibilities
    · Employer roles and responsibilities
    · A total Q&A

    APPROVED - 1.5 HRCI Credits
