Connecting with Transitioning Service Members and Veterans: The Business Case for Hiring Veterans

Speaker: Mark Brown, HR Director, JBLM

Mark Brown will review the transition program provided to Service Members as they exit active duty at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and address the challenges they face and the unique talents they bring to any organization. He will discuss how employers can connect to and support Service Members in the area.  Information about outreach events and initiatives to provide additional support to both Service Members and employers will be available.

The Army Career and Alumni Program  (ACAP) works with Service Members and their families to prepare them to transition to civilian life up to 24 months prior to their separation from active duty and 6 months following their separation.  ACAP provides a variety of seminars, one on one counseling services and hosts a variety of corporations, educational programs and additional organizations at their center to connect Service Members with resources and opportunities.  MSG Sean Lanegan is a veteran who has spent over 22 years in the active Army. As an ACAP manager, Sean works to bridge the gap between military and civilian employers by fostering relationships, mentoring, and coaching veterans and employers alike.
